The Bachelor of Commerce degree is designed to provide a wide range of managerial skills to students while building competence in a specific business area (see aside). Therefore, most universities plan a degree in such a way that students are exposed to general business principles in addition to their major, taking courses in accounting, finance, economics, actuarial studies, business administration, human resources, and marketing; some programs also require business statistics, calculus and information systems.
